FAQs

What is the Liver Disease Mentor Program?

The Liver Disease Mentor Program, supported by Eli Lilly, connects patients who have experience with liver disease and clinical trial participation to those seeking peer perspective. Through one-on-one conversations, mentors share their personal experiences to help others feel less alone and more informed as they navigate their treatment journey. Mentors are volunteers, not medical professionals or company representatives, and do not provide medical advice.

What is PatientPartner?

PatientPartner is the secure platform that powers the Liver Disease Mentor Program. It provides a safe and private space where mentors and mentees can exchange messages and share personal experiences.

What does a mentor do?

As a PatientPartner Mentor, you can share your personal journey with liver disease and clinical trial participation in a way that provides perspective and understanding. Your role is to listen, share your experience, and help others feel supported as they navigate their treatment process.

How much time does it take?

It’s flexible! You decide when you’re available and how often you want to connect. Most mentors spend just a few hours a month messaging others through the platform.

Do I need medical experience?

No, Mentors are volunteers, not medical professionals or representatives of Eli Lilly. They do not provide medical advice or treatment, they do not make decisions about patient care or trial participation and they do not collect or access patient medical records or trial related data.

What if I’m not sure I’d be a good mentor?

You don’t need to have all the answers just your story. Most mentors felt the same way at first, and they quickly find that simply listening and sharing their experience can make a big difference.

How will I know what to say?

You’ll receive training and practical conversation tips before you begin. Most mentors find that being open, kind, and genuine comes naturally.

What if I get matched with someone whose experience is different from mine?

That’s okay! Every journey is unique, and even if your experiences aren’t identical, your empathy and honesty can still make a meaningful impact.

Can I take a break if life gets busy?

Absolutely. You can pause new connections or update your availability anytime. There’s no ongoing schedule or fixed commitment.

Is this a paid position?

Mentors volunteer their time, but every connection creates an impact. For each mentee you support, PatientPartner donates to a charity of your choice, allowing your experience to make an even greater difference.

Is my information private?

Yes. All communication happens securely within the PatientPartner platform, and your personal information is never shared publicly or with mentees.
