You don’t have to navigate this alone

An ACL injury can feel overwhelming, especially when decisions need to be made quickly. Whether you’re going through it yourself or supporting your child, it’s not always clear what to expect.

Talking to someone who has already been through it can help you make sense of the process and feel more confident in what comes next.

FAQs

What is the BEAR Implant Mentor Program?

The Mentor Program connects you with a volunteer patient or caregiver who chose the BEAR® Implant for a torn ACL. You can ask questions, hear what their experience was like, and gain perspective from someone who understands what you’re going through.

Is there a cost to use the mentorship program?

No. This program is completely free for you.

Who are the mentors?

Mentors are volunteer patients and caregivers who chose the BEAR® Implant for ACL surgery. They’re not medical professionals, but they can share what their experience was really like.

How do I get matched with a mentor?

Simply sign up and fill out a short questionnaire. Based on your responses, we'll match you with a mentor who has been through a similar experience and can offer support that feels personal and relevant.

How do I talk with my mentor?

Once you're matched, you'll connect through the secure PatientPartner platform. You can chat one-on-one with your mentor, ask questions at your own pace, and stay connected on the platform for as long as you'd like. Communication is available through messages only and will occur through the platform.

What kind of questions can I ask my mentor?

You can ask about their experience with ACL surgery and/or the BEAR Implant, what the decision was like, how they felt going into it, and what day-to-day life looked like during recovery.

Mentors don’t provide medical advice, but they can share what they learned, what they wish they knew earlier, and how they approached their decisions. It’s a safe, private space to ask honest questions and hear from someone who’s been there.

Can I ask medical questions?

Mentors don’t provide medical advice or treatment recommendations. They can share what their experience was like, but for medical questions, it’s best to speak with your healthcare provider.

How soon can I talk to a mentor?

Your mentor is notified as soon as you send a message. Since mentors are volunteers, responses may take up to 24 hours.

Are mentors paid?

Mentors volunteer their time to support others through shared experience. They are not medical professionals and are here to offer personal insight, encouragement, and peer support.

Do I need to have received the BEAR Implant to use the program?

No. The program is for people considering the BEAR® Implant, recovering from ACL surgery with the BEAR Implant, or caring for someone going through that experience. You do not need to have already received the BEAR Implant to connect with a mentor.
